Seafaring Verse Perverse Poem by Robert Gerlich

Seafaring Verse Perverse

Call me Jonah!

I am from Arizona

I longed to see the watery part of the world

I sailed a sleek skiff down in Baja

Then flew Westward to the beaches of Makaha

Body-surfed... a Harbor there was Pearled

Days later I cruised to New Caledonia

The sunshine endeavors to mightily tone ya

Then Pitcairn, among Fletcher Christian's clan

I heard Captain Blye bellow -- keelhaul that man!

The Jolly Roger flapped in the breeze

Ben Gunn offered me a hunk of cheese

Water, water everywhere

Nor any a drop to drink!

I met with cannibals on the shores of New Guinea

Who stuffed pieces of Michael Rockefeller in me

Then to the coral reefs off Queensland -- delicate and pink

Water, water everywhere, but nary a drop to drink!

The wedding guest here beat his breast

And abandoned the Maria Celeste

Finally, to ram us, a white whale connived

You guessed it... I alone survived!
