Season's Beatings Poem by Shane Markie

Season's Beatings

Outside my heart's office window,
Frost builds up on double pained glass windows.
These are all I can afford to keep
The homefront hearth burning with a steady fire.

Childhood memories into adolescent kindling broken up
As faggots against my country's conflagrated chill.
Civil war looms unsteadily on the horizon.
Snug in my basement's bomb shelter

I'm bundled
ready for
collateral damage's
first kill.
