Selah- The Poem Poem by Nena Harris

Selah- The Poem

Rating: 5.0

Selah-
Uncertainty, stillness, needing to rest
Needing to leave
Surviving at best,
reflection of yesterday… a minute, a pause..
Selah…
Interlude
An interruption, a stop; A moment gone by
Ceasing to exist; no reason; no why
Invisible, divisible, Separating what was
Reaching, grasping, submerged abyss
Into
Slipping, evaporating, into nothingness
Grounded in spirituality
Selah; Semordnilap-
Hales; abrasive smiles, kindness wrapped in burlap
Drag, draw-ward; forcibly emerging back-words
Inhale, exhale; Struggling to breathe
Hyperventilate, nearly suffocate; extrapolate, searching for meaning
Emptiness, devoid of feeling
Drowning
Sinking
Taking a breath
Diminishing, disappearing, lingering
Death.
Selah.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is a work in progress. It is a play on words. It was written to explain my feelings of being diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect at the age of 50. It is a time of reflection. A time to pause and take account of one's life. It also depicts the depressed and intense feelings and emotions I have felt about potentially dying.
