Self-Deception - Poem by Kelly Kurt

Some matters are so meticulously researched
Experimentally and rationally investigated
As to fully explain, to the extent of our capacity
Logical and rational thought tries to prove itself wrong
Corroboration of results confirms findings
Yet proselytized indoctrinations subconsciously annul
Preconceptions override lying eyes
Belief refuses proof
Evidence is annoying
Denial is comforting
I agree that some things leave a miniscule prospect
An unknown or unknowable possibility
All but certainty
But even in our infant reality
Most issues can be cogently verified, resolved
Sincere introspection is the start

Very rightly you said it -
    Preconceptions override lying eyes
    Belief refuses proof
And Galileo like person was victimized...

Thus blind and adamant beliefs causes deception, a danger to the society. Great write

It is even worse now because we should know better.
    Thanks, Amitava

Faith is blind......! We cannot have rational explanation for many things! Often truth is camouflaged and untruth projected as truth....... We do not know what to believe and what to reject! But let me differ from you....Denial is often discomforting! Depends.....! A great write! (Report) Reply

Among the words I find illogical, is faith. By definition it is irrational, albeit often comforting

There are many things that can neither be proved false nor confirmed. In theses cases, belief is irrational

    'Evidence is annoying
    Denial is comforting'

Very finely said lines Kelly. The reminded me of something that maybe a little out of context but still it hit me - the issue of vaccination - in India we have had this huge trouble of getting kids vaccinated due to 'beliefs' that they themselves can barely have any ideas about...

Faith and belief are good as long as they don't come in the way of progress and prosperity of humankind...

    Thank you for sharing Kelly...

Many times those 'beliefs' are based on ancient religious writings that were penned by ignorant and malicious men. This is the 21st century, and 1st century tradition and blatant mythology should be abandoned, or at least treated as the fictional literature it is. How many people must suffer because they were indoctrinated from birth not to question?
    Thanks, Souren

Introspection is definitely needed to clear our thoughts and paths. Good choice of words and well envisioned. Another hit no doubt. Thanks (Report) Reply

Thank you, Jaishree. The world would be a much better place if superstition was replaced with fact

Yes Kelly, all what you say is true. Yet, let us all not forget the fact that, even a tiny spark can penetrate the huge thickest darkness; but not vice versa! Poet imagines and writes; reader reads and imagines. You make us imagining. Great job! X (Report) Reply

And laziness. It is easier to accept than to think independently and rationally

Thank you, Rahman. We have 1440 minutes in a day, and very few people even take one to think

Fantastic use of words to illustrating the confusions or the multidimensional shadows of camouflaged truth. Confession of the confusions measured with some legalised words sanctioned for encyclopedia. Move and face more hallucinations......Nice write. (Report) Reply

Thank you, Pranab. Rational thought should be taught from preschool on
