Self-Talk Poem by Monty AnNayef

Self-Talk

Years have passed by since we last met!
Years have gone by since our hands last touched!
I still remember your smell under my nose,
I always mistook it for that of a rose!
You told me with me lies the world;
You lied to me and said to you I was the world!

Let's not talk about that day,
When you dumped me and walked away,
When I followed you to the door and begged you to stay,
When I told you I'd become the person you wanted!
Years passed by before I knew I was unwanted,
Because you wanted me to be me and not what you wanted!

Years have passed by! Where have you been?
Years will pass by before we meet again.
