Selfish Lover Poem by Angela Smith

Selfish Lover

Two hearts one soul?
Rejected and lost
Terrified of feeling…anything!
Terrified of letting you in
Yet, there you were
And here we are

You professing this dangerous emotion with blind confidence
The weight of this confession
has the power to heal or destroy

Just know when you say you love me
you are holding my life in your hands

I stand here naked and wonder
Why can't we just devour each other
Then move on?

Just know it is beyond my control
as to if my heart will ever really let
you in
