Setting Poem by Francis Poole

Setting

Standing alone outside
the restaurant
middle aged woman
wearing large wraparound sunglasses.
Pursed red lips.
Dark blue jeans.
Pink knit top.
Sleeveless purple jeans jacket
covered with white stars.
Red cowboy boots.
A three strand necklace of blue rhinestones.
Purple stained fat wooden bracelet.
Black alligator clutch purse.
White nail polish.
From around the corner
a horse-drawn carriage
pulls up to the curb.
The driver helps her up
and into the seat.
The horse bends its neck
to look back at her.
The he shakes his head
up and down and neighs
and the woman whinnies back.
