Shackles Poem by Sefofane Shabalala

Shackles

I am in shackles, locked in a place I once
Found gratification in yet it feels like
A prison now, I am even afraid to smell
The fresh air nor see the sun set because
The people who were once our protectors
Are now told to use force and take us back
Into solitary.

I wonder when my mom's told me they
Were afraid of man in uniforms, was it
This she told me about, funny how they
Move in crowed without gloves nor mask
Yet we have to stay apart and not make
Contact, I am just having a conversation
With my thoughts.

We speak highly of unity and Ubuntu
Yet I only see people divided, they say
During hardships civilization unite but
Even after this brutal encounters our
Citizen's encounter, the more we are
Prorated, even though a gap of poverty
Accumulate for the less fortunate you
Praise the same man who causes it
Because he said lock yourself up,
You are saving a life.

My vision is clear yet I am afraid it could
Be tarnished, I have unplugged my pineal
Gland from this lucid dream I was meant
To relish upon I ate the red pill, I took my
First leap of faith, I'm breaking out of this
Orbit I am free and no longer in this shackles…
