Shapeshifter Poem by Maurice Rowlands

Shapeshifter

Start a man
Become a horse
Race a course
Lose your rider
Lay beside her
Take a bullet
In the gullet

Become a dog
And next a hog
And then a frog
In a pool
World is ending
Time's impending
Just a fool
Who the hell
Are you defending

Lay on your back
See the moon
Join a cult
Gone too soon
Join a sect
Circumspect
The world is ending
All this money
You are spending
Become a clown
Your world is bending

Step back down
From being a clown
Become a man
Once again
Travel down
That lonely lane

Become a mother
Or a brother
Or maybe one
Significant other

This world is turning
We are burning
Become a god
Forever yearning

Take a breath
You are learning
Start again
And again
And again
While our planet

Will cease from turning
