Short Selling Poem by Mary Champion

Short Selling

I tried to love my neighbour as myself.
That sounds impressive, but lacking self-worth -
what I offered didn't amount to much.
Searching for love -I sold my soul often -
and not always to the highest bidder.
The ones who offered more were too daunting
- feared I could not meet their expectations.
The others were easy enough to please
though the pleasure was never mutual.
