Shouldn'T - Poem by Amy Carr

I look at you
and all I can think
in those moments
(so many
I cannot count) is
'I shouldn't feel this way.

'My heart shouldn't
beat the way it does
for you.

'My mind shouldn't
wander to you
in every idle moment
of the day-
Your image haunting
my body
like an erotic wind.”

But it does,
And l do
and the reality
is that those thoughts
will always be
what they shouldn't.

    to escape into delight
    no matter the source
    what a blessing
    passion swirling in the heart
    giving the soul
    true pleasure
    a fine poem
