bu akl ü fikr ile mevla bulunmaz
bu ne yâredir ki merhem bulunmaz.
[with this mind, with this thought,
one cannot find the beloved.]

kamunun derdine derman bulunur
şu benim derdime derman bulunmaz.
[what wound is this—
for which no balm exists? ]

deryalar içinde susuz gezerim
beni kandıracak umman bulunmaz.
[[i wander, thirsty, in endless seas,
yet no ocean can quench me.]

aşkın pazarında canlar satılır
satarım canımı alan bulunmaz.
[in love's marketplace, souls are sold,
i offer mine—yet none will take it.]

yusuf'um yitirdim ken'an ilinde
yusuf bulunur, ken'an bulunmaz.
[i lost my yusuf in the land of canaan,
yusuf is found, but canaan is lost. ]

yunus öldü diye salâ verirler
ölen hayvan imiş, âşıklar ölmez.
[they say, 'yunus is dead, '
but only the body dies—
lovers never die. ]
