Silent Vows Poem by Nancy Crossman

Silent Vows

The rich, ebony shawl of night resting on the treetops.
Only the whisper of the wind in the silence of the dark forest,
A soft glow from the window of the little cottage nestled in the woods,
With wisps of smoke slowly spiralling through the tall white birch trees.
A lone figure - a silhouette in the window.
Moonlight’s glimmer outlining her pale breasts
She gazes at the brilliant stars, completely unaware of herself,
Only the magical, mystical universe that surrounds her.
He watches her from the bed,
Transfixed by the delicate blush of her body in the red glow
Of the fiery embers in the rustic hearth,
He adores her; she is his heart,
She is the reason for all that he does.
Like a warm hug, his thoughts envelop her,
Transcending space and time to touch her mind.
A knowing smile illuminates her face.
He rises from the crumpled sheets still damp with passion.
Mesmerized by her radiance, he is drawn to her,
Pressing himself against her back, he wraps his arms around her,
Cupping her soft breasts, he kisses her neck,
She feels the embers burning deep within her
As she leans her naked body against his.
He is part of her; she has waited for him all of her life,
He is the air that she breathes,
Together they stand naked under the stars,
Their silence is golden,
Their place in the universe a question,
Their eternally binding love a certainty.
