Sister, Let's Talk Poem by Tamura Freeman

Sister, Let's Talk

Let’s first talk about your attitude
How you think it’s cute to be rude
Yet when it comes back you look appalled,
When harsh words have been spoken
A heart unintentionally broken
That door to communication is now a brick wall,
Be careful of how you walk away
Mindful of the words your lips will say
These things will return to you later in time,
Body language can easily replace words
Vocally silent but your message still heard
Not everything read is on paper but sometimes a sign,
The bad habit of constantly talking back
Shows respect you obviously lack
By continuing to give some type of explanation,
You claim to know that respect is earned
Your actions say that you still haven’t learned
As you come up with some idea of justification,
Open your ears and close your lips
Take your hands off of your hips
You waste useful energy when you pout,
It won’t hurt to listen sometimes
Get some knowledge in your one track mind
There’s always someone who can help you out,
Educate your mind and read some books
Decisions are not always based on looks
That man you want expects his lady to be able to carry her own,
Learn all you can in your growing years
Questions your doubts and do away with any fears
This will help when it’s your time to be grown,
Knowledge and wisdom are the major keys
Not necessary to have multiple degrees
But stupidity is not a good characteristic to represent you as a person,
True enough a story has at least two sides
What’s not always obvious are the truth and lies
You may not even get to share your version,
Look within to see who you are
Make sure your identity is up to par
There’s enough inside to keep you busy concerning self,
Different in personality yet biologically the same
The difference is how you carry your name
Let your spirit and soul be the determinant of your wealth,
Think about life as it is
Set realistic goals of how to live
Be true to self and those you pass along the way,
No one know what the future holds
Be kind to all- young and old
Never know who you may need someday,
Clear your mind of that which isn’t good
This will help matters of the heart to be better understood
Understanding that it’s not about looks or the way you walk,
Almost any situation can be made better
Nothing in this world will last forever
So now, sister let’s talk.
