Slaves To Freedom Poem by DANIEL ESSIEN

Slaves To Freedom

We have come
Just as we came
The same shall all return.
We are Kings today
Enjoy while it last,
Tomorrow slaves we are anyway.
It was our fate in the past
More true is our current days.
We are slaves....

When the years were nineteen and sixty
We were celebrated Kings
In our young identity
We wore the golden coal rings.
The world was at our attention
Because we had what command attention.
Our hands are folded backward
We are freed slaves....

Our eyes are open
And we are blind,
Our bounds are loosed,
But we are bind.
The chains are cut
And we are still captives.
We are a free nation in slavery.
The cruel hands of our elites
The corrupt fist of pretty politicians.
The imperial cord of the metropolitan holds tie,
The shipwreck fellowship of the colony with capitalists.
We are freely enslaved....

We are slaves
In the land of our soil,
We are free
Only to answer the calls of cruel insurgencies.
The land is enslaving her citizens,
The soil sucks the blood of its fruits.
We are indeed slaves...
In the land of our birth.
