Slumber Poem by Saturday Chikezie Promise

Slumber

To My Lord and My Love:

You wanted to stay up a bit
To write me words of love,
But slumber got the best of you,
Descending from above.

Did you know that when you closed your eyes
And drifted off to sleep,
That I was there to comfort you
Within your dreams so deep?

Did you know that I had dreamt of you,
At that exact same time,
And savored all that makes you you,
So thrilled that you are mine?

Could you hear me calling out to you,
And singing your sweet name,
As heavenly music of our love
Serenaded us in our dream?

Did you see my tender smile for you,
As my eyes beheld the sight,
Of a woman so wondrous in my life,
Whom I could love all night?

Did you feel me hold you tenderly,
And stroke your weathered brow,
Then kiss your delicious honeyed lips
As only I know how?

Could you taste exotic luscious fruits,
I fed you by the fire,
And fine wine sipped, then finally gorged,
As we surrendered to love's desire?

My Darling, you didn't miss a thing,
As you rested in your bed,
For I was there the whole sweet time,
Amidst reveries in your head.
