SMOOTHNESS Poem by Lars Gustafsson

SMOOTHNESS

Here the calm smoothness ruled
which could be disturbed by a single oarstroke.
The season slowly cooling.
The sound of a chain being taken off
and laid in the bottom of a rowboat.
And, afraid to disturb this
surface's rare great calm
I held my oar hovering in the air.
