Somalia Is One Poem by Ayanle Isak

Somalia Is One

Somalia toosoo, Somalia toosoo,
The land of my fathers, the home of my soul,
A pearl of Africa, a treasure untold,
A land whose greatness cannot be sold.

One people, one religion, one culture, one tongue,
One nation whose story has forever been sung.
One blood, one history, beneath the same sun,
Somalia is one, Somalia is one.

Somalia toosoo, Somalia toosoo,
What have they done to you?
Brothers divided, their hatred grew,
While those who betrayed you grew wealthy from you.

They speak of peace with blood on their hands,
They speak of freedom while selling our lands.
They wave our flag while serving another,
And call themselves leaders while betraying their brother.

Somalia toosoo, Somalia toosoo,
You are not poor, you have never been poor,
Your wealth lies beneath your soil and shore.
Rich in history, in poetry and pride,
Rich in the oceans where our ancestors sailed.

Yet your children go hungry upon fertile ground,
While your riches are stolen without a sound.
Your people are kind, your people are brave,
A loyal friend until the grave.

But mistake not kindness for weakness or fear,
A fierce adversary when betrayal draws near.
A people of poets, warriors and pride,
Whose spirit no power could ever divide.

One people, one religion, one culture, one tongue,
One nation whose story has forever been sung.
One blood, one history, beneath the same sun,
Somalia is one, Somalia is one.

Oh, my people, when will you wake?
How many more lives must division take?
Your enemy is not the clan next door,
Nor the brother whose fathers fought yours before.

Your enemy is the greed that tears you apart,
The poison of hatred planted in your heart.
The man who sells your future for a throne,
Who would rather rule ashes than share a home.

Somalia toosoo, Somalia toosoo,
Your pain is my pain, your tears are my own,
Though far from your shores, you remain my home.

Let no politician purchase your pride,
Let no clan be the reason a brother must die.
Let no foreign interest determine our fate,
Let no hunger for power teach children to hate.

They may divide the land,
But they cannot divide its soul.
They may steal its riches,
But its history cannot be sold.

Somalia was never poor.
Somalia was never weak.
Somalia was never without greatness.

Somalia was divided.

And when her children choose each other
Over those who profit from their pain,
Somalia shall rise again.

One people. One religion.
One culture. One language.
One nation. One destiny.

Somalia toosoo, Somalia toosoo.
Somalia is one.
Somalia will always be one.
