Some Of What I Will Be Poem by Christopher Cofield

Some Of What I Will Be

Rating: 5.0

You don't love me
Because you don't know me
Because what I appear to be
Is not exactly who I am

With time and care you'd see
All that I am and can be
But at this moment you see
You don't know me

My looks are not the sum
Of all I am and have done
Just like the morning sun
I have more days to rise

With some battles won
My spirit suffers erosion
With lashes from your forked tongue
I am still, I hold me

Take account of who I am
Like you no ordinary man
Whose vision designed so grand
No thing can harm my plan

Just like a grain of sand
Carried in a child's hand
Can create a wonderland
Through innocent eyes

Should I make a wish
Blink and my life would fix
According to your list
This I would not do

But to do this thing
Then would your heart sing
Raise my status to king
My soul is breaking

I must journey this path
Because my life is my task
The world is mine to have
If I walk with truth

Keep my head held high
My dreams pointed toward the sky
You'll see the prize gleam in my eye
I'll burn out with the stars

Because this is me you see
Some of what I will be
But at this moment you see
You don't know me
