SOMETHING I LOOK AT-395
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY
I know
you have a big heart
which can accommodate tears and smiles of millions.
It beats for all irrespective caste, creed and colour
I know
how boundless your kindness is.
You feel the weight of others' suffering,
see their wounds with unwavering clarity,
and strive with all your might to heal and mend.
You leave no stone unturned,
making life a little more bearable
in this seemingly unbearable world.
You reach where others dare not venture.
You witness sorrow, poverty, pain, and silent tears
that many fail to see.
You have breathed life into the lifeless,
restored smiles to faces once empty of light.
You are your own ideal,
setting a standard few can ever match.
What you envision today,
many will not grasp even in the distant future.
But how unfortunate I am—
the heart that beats for all
is closed to me now.
I pray it is not closed forever.
This weight is too much to bear,
this longing too much to endure.
Open your heart—
let a handful of spring breathe life into my aching soul.
Let a fleeting shower drench my barren land,
if not forever, then just for a while.
Let me touch heaven for a moment
before I close my eyes.
