SOMETHING I LOOK AT-397
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY
I know you rarely look back.
But if you ever do,
you will see someone —
standing at a distance,
watching you,
watching your success,
watching your failure,
cheer and tear as his own
Whenever you turn,
he will be there—
his memory fading,
his vision dimming,
his steps unsteady.
And yet, he waits,
only to see you shining,
see you smiling in the
ebb and tide of life
until the earth itself bids him farewell.
Through countless rains and relentless summers,
he lingers in his withered garden,
not for himself,
but to witness your ascent—
to see you claim the success you deserve,
to watch you surrounded by love,
bathed in the beauty and abundance of life.
You know he is different.
Yet his love, silent and unwavering, is beyond doubt.
He may not walk beside you,
but he lives for you—
he lives within you.
He holds on,
only for a moment when you might turn,
just once,
so he can see you shining among the stars.
His love asks for nothing.
No wealth, no rewards—
only the grace of your smile,
the purity of your heart, a bit of your attention for the one you once loved
Look back
you will see
how and where he is
