Song: The Gamblin' Man - Poem by David SmithWhite

Does she know, the game is hard,
when you spin that joker's card?
Are your dealer's hands too clumsy in the glove?
Does she know, it's just not nice,
when you rolled that weighted dice,
to gamble for the price that is her love?

Gamblin' man! Oh gamblin' man!
An amblin', ramblin', shamblin', gamblin' man.
Gamblin' man, does what he can,
to so parade his virtues with
his cool grace and elan.

Gamblin' man! Oh gamblin' man!
Rules are made and broken,
by your devil luck and chance.
Gamblin' man! Oh gamblin' man!
Fools will take their token wins,
and play high stakes romance.

Does she know, you play for keeps,
and your ruthlessness runs deep?
Is your core, a leap of faith, or just a bluff?
Does she know, she's lulled to sleep,
by a con-artist and creep,
who'd fleece her sheep-like innocence with love.

Gamblin' man! Oh gamblin' man!
Among the sharks you're swimmin' with,
we all look on askance.
Gamblin' man! Oh gamblin' man!
Such risks you take for women like
true Mills and Boon gallants.

Gamblin' man! Oh gamblin' man!
An amblin', ramblin', shamblin', gamblin' man.
Oh gamblin' man, will you be damned,
as that self-made myth and sham:
the gamblin' man?
