Sonnet (The Blue-White Ball) Poem by D A Phinney

Sonnet (The Blue-White Ball)

As I have cast a ball out on the sea
To splash, then bob as if to sight the hand
Which leased its fate to tide's uncertainty,
Or knew its rightful role was on the sand,
And I, anticipating from the shore
With interest spirited and confidence
That it should, washed by waves, be cleansed the more
Upon return by salt experience,
That it, soaked in the nectar of pre-birth,
Should more companion prove by drifting far;
As mankind from the Cosmos jumps from Earth,
And should return man-kinder 'neath his star-
So God cast consciousness out into time:
Great leap! That we'd evolve to be His Rhyme.
