Sordid Boon Poem by Abdul Samad Rajput

Sordid Boon

Upon my cherished land
After a considerable time
The intensity of sun's heat
Seemed to grow wane.

It seemed as if
Within my dwelling realm
Whisper of change,
Would linger in the air.

From within my abode, I sensed
Some somber clouds gathering
To bring down the rain
To give birth to verdant life.

Lo and behold! What unfolds
A paradox, A narrative untold.
With darkness dwelling all around
Robbing every Gen-Y and Gen-Z of freedom.

Undoubtedly, Upon my homeland
A sordid boon is planned.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Sordid Boon is a symbolic socio-political poem that reflects the emotional and psychological condition of a nation overshadowed by uncertainty, oppression, and fading hope. Through images of heat, clouds, rain, and darkness, the poem portrays the contrast between the anticipation of change and the harsh reality of lost freedom. The poem particularly voices the anxieties of Gen-Y and Gen-Z, generations struggling under social and political constraints. Written in free verse with reflective and melancholic undertones, the poem serves as both a lament and a quiet protest against the forces that imprison collective hope.
