Special Occasions Poem by Josh Rodriguez

Special Occasions

we didn’t see
much of
each other,

and i was
usually
drunk when
we were
together—

for the most part,
anyway—

and the cigarettes
turned to smoke
while i watched
you sit at
the table,

keeping the
gravity of the
moment
strong
