Sphinx Poem by Rodney Russ

Sphinx

Your blood pumping body organ has ceased to be
Never less, you stand high with might wonder in the eye
You are the mighty myth, great Sphinx
Let your people go
Left to guard the whole of Africa
Alone desolate soul
Accepted opinion is long without life
A vacant burial place
A forgotten comet
Sixty-five inches of bravado
An operatic volume, a Mikado
The Headless horseman rides through its cave
Sphinx, the heavyweight champion of history
Defeated Jack Johnson, Rocky Marciano, and Ali
Shipboard excess comeback mighty
Egypt forever will be to your splendid
