Splendour Poem by Bohnishikha Ghosh

Splendour

A great work of art,
Magnificence. Grandeur. Beauty.
An avenue-nature’s work
Arches forming acanopy.
Foliagescape; not skyscrapers.
As seasons change--

Spring is welcome,
The scene turns a radiant green.
Little saplings, envious of tall neighbours,
Coveting sunlight.

The perspiring world is relieved
By the juicy succulent fruits of summer.
Protected from the blazing sun
Rings of light dance on my face as look up.

Clammy air blows past my hair,
Before the rain-beating heaen
Lets its heap of sorrows down.
Leaves and branches wave in harmony, in accordance.
Filled potholes for me to jump on.

As winter approaches,
The first greys of dawn
Are gifted with glittering dewdrops on leaves,
Which roll down my face
When I shake a branch.

A distant bird chirps, a squirrel scuttles across, millipedes
Mate.
A path to the infinite welcomes me,
Invites me to walk along.
When the path ends,
I look back-a sigh
Awed by the splendour
Of nature’s creation.
