Square One Poem by Varun Rao

Square One

Starting for something new.
In store lies what?
Have I a clue?

At square one I stand.
A step forward, and
I see unknown land.

To shock it is quick.
Yet admired it is.
In that lies the trick.

Miles away from home you may,
A realization creeps in.
In hearts will they forever stay.

Ahead lie unpaved ways.
Following unseen signs.
Behind me a road in glorious haze.

Channeling energy I challenge myself.
Will I conquer?
Yes. I place tokens on my shelf.

Songs and rhymes unfold.
In places so old, in places of gold.
Each a different emotion it holds.

From hardships some grow, no not a pick.
So very content, they are happy.
They are from lands where hearts are bigger than big.

A blind dog I met on our way one day.
Nothing he asked for, little did he take.
In mutual love I stayed, while silently he lay.

Rising through dust, avoiding a rust.
People I met, a handful they may be,
Doing what they must, doing what they trust.

Travel to places, when the season is called unwise.
They say it will be grey. But,
I watch now, real beauty on the rise.

Deceived by people at times I feel.
Deceit and greed, sugar coated they reveal.
Nothing I hold forth, for the world will make them kneel.

At journey's end new doors are open.
Ajar are they, pushing them is up to me.
Behind each door, a light on every learnt lesson.

Where the journey runs to,
Back on square one.
I stand thinking,
I am a new person.
I am a new person.
