Still Here (Villanelle) Poem by C.D. Sinex

Still Here (Villanelle)

Rating: 5.0

I'd park my car right over there
and with good friends I'd spend my days.
The jobs are gone, but we're still here.

From time to time I come to stare
and pluck smiles from memory's haze.
I'd park my car right over there.

The building sits in disrepair,
and I, alone, watch it decay.
The jobs are gone, but it's still here.

There was a time we had few cares
a week's hard work would bring good pay.
I'd park my car right over there.

They shut the plant, those millionaires
who now enjoy a life of play—
the jobs are gone, but they're still here.

I thought I'd found the one place where
I'd work until my hair turned gray.
I'd park my car right over there.
The jobs are gone, but I'm still here.
