Stung Awake Poem by Mary Champion

Stung Awake

With foresight, I should have seen
that I would lose my moral compass.
I was an easy steal -
all that time spent in an emotional drought -
my passion hibernating in self defence.

Meeting you was the pivot
turning my life upside down.
For a while I was fooled into falling
for the impossible promise you offered.
But the inevitable split left me stranded
more alone than I have ever been
and ruthless memory would not relinquish the hope -
brutally engraving your name on my heart.
