Summer Wanes Poem by Jonathan H. Scott

Summer Wanes

As summer days give way to longer nights,
The morning star now lingers in the sky—
The lightning bug has taken his last flight,
And special friends have shared a fond good-bye.

Good cheer and gladness had among true friends
Are set aside, as evening turns to night—
Though winding down, the summer never ends,
Nor all the days remembered in half-light.

The sun has bid adieu to his last guest,
As revelers go on their merry way—
But hidden feelings have been so confessed,
And to some quiet spot Love steals away.

And in a place forbidden to all eyes,
A wanton kiss upon sweet lips is laid—
While heated passion comes as no surprise,
Love, like the setting sun, will someday fade.
