Sunset Poem by Prabhakar Subramaniam

Sunset

Who doesn't want to die

When he is so happy

He thinks he can't be

Any happier than this

Wants the moment to last

Willing to pay for it

Even with death

If only he can be sure

The feeling will outlast the flesh

Who doesn't want to die

When he is so sad

He thinks he can't be

Any sadder than this

Wants the moment to end

If only death will end it

Who doesn't look back

At all the highs and lows

When the sun begins to set

Doesn't laugh at the folly

Of wanting things to end

Before their time

Glad to have survived

Both happiness and sadness

To sit like this after the day is done

Watching the darkness fall like grace

On the hill and the valley

Wanting nothing more or less
