Surrender, Mercy Me (Oldold) Poem by Shelby Barker

Surrender, Mercy Me (Oldold)

Pride and selfishness
Hatred and scandals
Only humans could bring it hand-in-hand.
Conceited, /careless, /deceiving minds;
Rare to find anyone different.
We all eventually go, us beings,
but who really cares?
No one yet has seen true despair.
So go on, you,
destroy our beloved home.
One stupid mistake,
one unthinkable crime,
one at a time,
Waste away, waste away.
We got the world crashin’ down;
Get a match, quick
Set all those sins alight,
cause this horrid place is burnin’ down tonight.

Grab a partner,
my friends,
and load up onto our Ark.
Our refuge in this time of need.
Ask with me,
my friends,
for our world to be washed clean.
Destroy the evil that’s invaded us.
The greed,
the authority,
the wants they call needs.
Let it all be taken away;
We’ll someday build up to the sky again.

Now all to do is wait,
so many orange days and red nights.
Fire, fire everywhere;
feeding on our old lives,
now properly disposed.
Finally,
all left is ashes.

It’s almost time now,
you see,
to make way through the debris.
Start our new beginning.
But wait,
let me first send out my Turtle Dove;
bring back a sign of purity,
of peace,
of calm.
Returned!
The most joyful sight
A string of color in such a dull sky;
Underneath our messenger flies.
An olive leaf clutched in its beak…
our Mother Earth is free.
