Swallowing Swords Poem by Abby Kimball

Swallowing Swords

Everything you knew was wrong,
And anything you thought was right,
Numb the pain with smoke,
And drink away the night,

Swallow your pride,
And his man hood,
Sleep with the bad,
Don’t trust the good,

Judgment passes for love,
Suddenly you are talked about,
Push and shove
To get the enemies tongue in your mouth,

Your hand shakes,
As you try to write,
The apology at your wake,
The last words to the boy you never kissed,
You cry and wonder if you’ll be missed,

You should have listened,
I should have touched,
We were happy,
You were cut up,

I sit and stare at the picture of us,
Wonder what virtue is,
Why it’s a fuss,
I sit and glare at the picture of us,
