Sweet, Sweet Sleep Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Sweet, Sweet Sleep

Not even the cold sides of my pillow
can lull me to sweet, sweet sleep.
Your face, your words, your shadow
swim in my mind, even in its tree-house.
My body wishes for sweet, sweet sleep
but my mind is one weary, open book.
Chapters and loose pages of you
throw themselves about til I turn static.
No, I’ve decided, this has to stop
I need to put this mind in its cage.
Pronouncing you dead, be gone
sweet, sweet sleep poison me good night.
