THAT YOU ARE CUTE Poem by Toshikazu Yasumizu

THAT YOU ARE CUTE

That you are cute
is something I shouldn't say?
But the words are strangely stubborn and jealous,
not quite happy to see us
in love with each other,
and don't like to go back and forth
between you and me.
So, listen, my dear.
How about
playing a little trick
on the words?
Let's toss the word ‘cute'
into your cute mouth
and seal it tight with your cute lips
and my lips on top of them.
The poor thing would surely go mad and
die in agony in your mouth.
And what if love remains
after the words are gone?
So, my dear,
what do you say?
