The Abyss Poem by Ryan Brodesser

The Abyss

as I stare into the dark and dim
I know my chances are at best slim
if I don’t jump, if I don’t get off the trail
my life's goanna hurl off the rail
the lights gone burnt dim, my sanities bailed out
I’ll go with it, and hope to hell I’ll survive, bask in the doubt
into the deep, fanged fiends close in for the kill
I realize my life has been only one huge empty thrill
the roads run out, I'm out of ground to stand
it seems that my hearse is paid, cash in hand

close the eyes,
do you remember all the lies?
where have all the memories gone?
where, where do I go on?
a little taste, no more, be cool, be real
to be a different man, one who listened to a clever spiel
now look where I’ve been taken,
Left in the rain, a piece forsaken

well now I’ve done it, I’ve torched every bridges and spent every dime
and made more foes than friends in record time
so before I lay my soul to rest
I hope I’ve actually lived my life to it’s best
and before I sleep, the sleep of kings
I’ll dream a dream of flying free on golden wings
to the last but not the least, I'll hope a hope
that others fail to follow on this slippery slope

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
this poem is about an addiction, a drug addiction, (not me!) But I am trying to summarize how it feels in the end. Review!
