We are the ones left by the river side
Dangling back and forth life's shores
Struggling to survive when the billows rose
We hoped not to drown, though it was our nightmare
Then we mastered the very art of drowning
And the taste of survival sweetened our soured tongues
We were the ones left by life's river side
They thought we'd drowned
Against all odds, we survived!
