The Beauty That Was Brief Poem by Claire Ann Sansolis

The Beauty That Was Brief

There are moments
that were never meant to stay,
yet somehow
they leave their light behind.

A smile across a room,
a shared song,
a conversation held a little deeper
than expected—
small things,
but my heart remembered.

There was beauty
in simply being seen,
in witnessing someone
carry burdens quietly
and still choose to serve.

I admired the faithfulness,
the kindness,
the heart behind the voice—
and for a little while,
something in me felt warm.

Not a promise.
Not a possession.
Not a story I needed to finish.

Just a flower
opening for a season.

I learned that fleeting
does not mean meaningless.

Some moments are gifts
precisely because
we cannot keep them.

So I will not chase
what was never mine to hold.
I will not turn a blossom
into a garden of longing.

I will simply be grateful
that I was there
when it bloomed.

And when the petals fall,
I will let them.

For some beautiful things
are not given to become forever—
they are given
to remind us
that our hearts are still capable
of wonder.

So I carry no regret.

What was beautiful,
I bless.

What was fleeting,
I release.

What remains,
I entrust to God.

And I keep walking—
rooted,
whole,
and quietly grateful
for the beauty
that was brief. 🌸
