The Cycle Of The Soul Poem by Oisin Silverhare

The Cycle Of The Soul

Rating: 4.0

As I sit and think of days gone by,
Of childhood, youth and adulthood,
I start to contemplate the why,
Of a lifetimes' bad and good.

Of days so sad they bring forth tears,
Pains one hoped would soon be past,
And times of joy from long lost years,
A sadness that they did not last.

The stream of time can absorb all woe,
Until we see with polished sight,
That every moment no matter how low,
Has placed in us a brighter light.

A flame inside burns bright and clear,
Within its glow our minds are reborn,
A sense that time has healed our fear,
And worked on us like the breath of morn.

Memories now bring a positive augur,
That every day our soul does deploy,
A sense of life and all it can engender,
And each day becomes a positive joy.

Our life deep within us is enshrined,
The sum of the years that have turned,
Joy and strife brings a balanced mind,
Our soul its lessons now has learned.

Age brings a desire for other things,
A knowledge we once may have known,
We fill our life with spiritual musings,
Now the light of our soul has grown.

Death no longer brings an end to our song,
It allows the soul to live a new life through,
To add more to our soul as we travel along,
The chance to follow the wheel of life anew.

Our soul, a light within us, does shine,
Like Brighid's sacred flame does burn,
A personal touch of the eternal divine,
That transcends our earthly sojourn.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was the first poem I had written for nearly fifty years (the last time was, possibly, when I was at school) . It reflected how I felt at the time when I was coming out of a very bad place caused by the failure of my marriage.
