The Dreaming Of An Entity Poem by Vonnie Postit

The Dreaming Of An Entity

Rating: 5.0

is it possible for an entity not to dream?
like water or the earth, can the entity just be
constantly racing towards something or
spinning out of control for millions
of seconds,
yet never actually go anywhere at all?
or if the entity must dream, is it possible
that those dreams remain tethered,
like a volleybell tied by a string to the top of a pole?
perhaps the entity does dream.
perhaps the entity dreams of reaching the end
of the stream or
catching on fire.
i guess, then, the entity simply
dreams of the end.
the entity dreams of when it goes dark.
it dreams of conclusions
so then it necessarily dreams of disappointment.

dreams seem no more real than leprochauns
or beauty yet the entity wishes for dreams.
dreaming of dreams is no life,
and the entity feels sorry for itself.
the entity wants to sleep all day.
the entity wants to fall in love and
the entity wants to break everyone's heart.
the entity uses aluminum crystal balls to
see the future, but forgets that
things can seem so bright from far away.

the entity tries to dream and forget
the ugliness of this imaginary world, but
cannot seem to get past the liars at the door.

what if the entity did nothing at all?
would the water stop racing to the end?
would the world catch on fire?
