Sitting very still,
with all attention gathered
at the center of the heart,
resounding with
the uncreated music of Hu.
Slowly surrendering, I realize—
instead of seeking the Sounder
within and around,
He is here, smiling before my eyes.
I am constantly observed
by that hidden Sounder;
He sounds, and hears His own sound.
I am but an instrument in His hands.
Instead of touching the Sounder,
I am touched.
Instead of tasting
the sweetness of the melody,
I am the music of God—
and I am being tasted.
It is necessary to seek,
yet never to force the question;
better to surrender
than to chase the answer away.
I ask and listen at once,
trusting in good faith
that the answer rests
within the question—
and the question is me.
