The Ending Poem by Shelby Burnside

The Ending

the rock falls off the edge
my toe taps another and i wait
for the soft noise of it falling down the ridge.
for a moment i will fly;
the air will rush past my face
and everything will be alright again.
then, a thought pops into my head.
what if it doesnt end as i had planned?
that thought almost stops my attempt completely
but then, i remember those things you said to me
and i take a step back
ready to let go
and fly to my not-so-happy
ending
