Slapstick comedy, in my opinion, is like some forms of art: it is better viewed at a distance: e.g. Lucy and the Three Stooges on TV. Our daughter has always shared the view of clowns as expressed in this poem. She is now 31 and still feels the same way. I have never been that close to a clown. If I ever was, I would expect to smell booze on their breath. What else could encourage someone to dress up and act like that?
