The Female Poem by Rhys Owens

The Female

every girl i ever knew had a boyfriend.
it's like they come with them,
like batteries included...
and if you're ever lucky enough
to get one without any in the package with them-
they insist on being returned right away,
so you can replace them for another.

people never make sense.
they rarely make love;
just some awkward combination of the two.
but you can't have both.

i, myself, don't need batteries,
i run on raw spirit.
i don't care if God doesn't exist;
He's nothing but weak closure
for those that are afraid to die.

i'm not afraid to die.
it's only i have things that i need
to do.
