The Fisherman Poem by VaGótha Kuroibara

The Fisherman

An anchored boat—a tinkered past.
A rocky shore—a light of last.
A fisher's hook from down below.
A glass of casing—I bestow.

This scaled maiden of navy hair—
My prized possession as I stare.
Never I knew a creature of beauty.
She glares at me—what a cutie!

Do I feel bad, for I say, 'No.'
Do I feel shame as the days go?
I enter the chamber of trophied sea.
She floats dead—I check on she!

I open the tank and lift her out.
She awakens and hits me—rageful bout!
Falls she does and hits the ground
Scrambles and drags, atop her, I bound.

She screams loud in my restraint!
Back to the tank, my prized daint!
Quiet she becomes, I start to wonder.
A clash of lightning—the sound of thunder!

Hurricane season! Board the windows!
The house shakens! Roof peels away!
Lightning strikes the lightest tower!
The strongest winds to latest hour!

The day is night, and she is gone.
I lie on sand until dawn.
I open my eyes as I hear the sea,
The mermaid lies over next to me.

Worried! She looks into mine.
I was wrong for her decline.
Never should I, have caught and trapped.
The lengths she went to sought and apt.

I lift her up and all the while
Serene as she, quite beguile.
Saddened as I—the conscience in me.
Into the ocean! I set her free!

Months have passed—a silver tear.
Years don't last—my sadness mere.
As I sit on rocky shores,
A familiar hand, on knee outdoors.

To the left, I look down
A kindly smile, there I found.
The mermaid came, after all this time.
The lightest tower, bell of chime.

A piece of jewelry for the neck,
Archaic of looks from shipwreck
She places it on my neck and chest;
The shame I felt—put to rest.

Forgiveness, she gave through a hug.
No words but silence—gentle snug.

The merhunters of West shout my name.
The mermaid worries and holds me claim.
I tell her to swim far from here.
Off she goes in waves of clear!

I hide the necklace in my shirt.
My mind troubled—my heart hurt.
Snapping back to fish and sea.
An alibi I give, but not of she.
