The Flight Of Death Poem by Dennis Field

The Flight Of Death

Rating: 5.0

This is true.
50 years on
and it still hurts
to think of all the young lives lost

They flew out of England
on a trip to a foreign land
Stavanger in Norway
first time the school flew
most of them only 14 years old
had all the names down to go
mine was there but could not go
they all payed their money
Mum and Dad could not afford it
someone took my place

I was delivering papers that day
saw the headlines 'AIR CRASH'
did not read the rest
got home and sister told me
all my school friends had died
tears in my eyes 'WHY' 'WHY' 'WHY'
too many lives gone at once
makes you think what's in store

from the one who missed the flight to death
as the papers called it
rest in peace my friends
