The Gift Bearer Poem by Luise Carmen

The Gift Bearer

In sadness the seeds of joy are contained
Just as in happiness the seeds of pain lie sleeping
And so it is with life
Is it not the same sky that harbours both the night and day?
The moon and the sun?
Is it not the same land that bears both feast and famine?
The winter and the spring?
And does not each serve its special purpose?
Every loss contains a sacred gift
A treasure of infinite wealth buried within it
We need only to unmask this by opening our eyes
Take the gift into your heart and share it with others
Be the Gift-bearer shining your light on the world
Lighting the dark and revealing the truth
As just as night follows day so must day follow night
So must gain follow loss
And in the night-time, remember the stars and the moon
Glistening like jewels, illuminating the dark
The buried treasure contained within the black velvet sky
Because then you become the Gift Bearer of sacred knowledge
To all who seek the shelter from the nightfall
