When Love unblinds us, to see one true face,
One mask transparent to unclouded eyes,
And reveals by this solitary grace
The chosen one, though showing truth, Love lies.
Love lets us see as God sees, only once,
Concealing all other souls in darkness:
Strikes just that one brief spark to flash amongst
The huddled wraiths, then forever mocks us
In our blindness. Each faceless shade we pass
Is immortal, and will outlast the sun,
But we are hidden likewise in the mass
Unless we can ourselves unblind just one.
'Tis cruel; but crueler yet if I had been
One who never saw, nor was ever seen.
