The Green Flag Poem by Mary Champion

The Green Flag

The planet's flag is lush and green
in memory of the way it's been.
But now the threat of flood and fire
suggests the future will be dire.

So raise the verdant standard high
for on this earth we'll live and die.
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer
we'll keep the green flag flying here.

With plastic choking land and sea
we have to change our ways and be
less greedy and less profligate,
we cannot just proliferate.

So raise the verdant standard high
for on this earth we'll live and die.
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer
we'll keep the green flag flying here.

The air we breathe is poisoned now,
we have to clean it up somehow,
and share, more fairly all our wealth
to guarantee the planet's health.

Come raise the verdant standard high
for on this earth we'll live and die.
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer
we'll keep the green flag flying here.

Short-sighted dupes who never think,
will bring us closer to the brink.
They cringe beneath the rich man's frown
and haul our sacred emblem down.

So raise the verdant standard high
for on this earth we'll live and die.
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer
we'll keep the green flag flying here
